macOS Setup Guide

Recommended client: V2RayX

What You Need

  • A STEA VPN account (after payment approval)
  • Your unique subscription link from your dashboard
  • A Mac running macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or newer
  • Admin permissions to install apps
1
Download the Client
  1. 1

Download the latest V2RayX disk image (.dmg).

    • Save the .dmg file to your Downloads folder
    • Prefer the Universal build if available (Apple Silicon + Intel)
  2. 2

Mount the disk image and drag V2RayX to Applications.

    • Double-click the downloaded .dmg to mount it
    • When the window opens, drag V2RayX onto the Applications folder
    • Unmount the disk image after copying
  3. 3

    Open V2RayX from Applications.

The first time you launch V2RayX, macOS may block it with "V2RayX cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified".

If blocked โ†’ open System Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ scroll to the bottom, click "Allow Anyway" next to the V2RayX notice, then open the app again.
2
Import Your Subscription Link
  1. 1

    Locate the V2RayX menu-bar icon.

V2RayX lives in the menu bar at the top-right of your screen. You will see a small paper-plane or V logo.

  2. 2

    Open Import from URL.

    • Click the V2RayX menu-bar icon
    • Hover over "Config" to reveal the submenu
    • Click "Import from URLโ€ฆ"
  3. 3

Paste your STEA subscription link and click OK.

A toast notification will confirm the import. Your servers are now available from the server list inside the same menu.

To see servers, click the menu-bar icon โ†’ "Configure" โ†’ "Servers" panel.
3
Connect
  1. 1

    Pick a server.

Click the menu-bar icon โ†’ select a server near you. For general browsing, Singapore or Japan are the fastest for most Asian users.

  2. 2

    Turn on "Enable Proxy".

    • From the menu, click "Enable Proxy"
    • The menu-bar icon will switch to a colored "ON" state
    • System proxy is automatically configured
You can toggle the proxy any time from the same menu, or set a global keyboard shortcut in Preferences.
4
Verify It Works
  1. 1

Open Safari or Chrome and verify your public IP.

Visit whatismyip.com โ€” the country shown should match the selected server.

  2. 2

    Test streaming and AI services.

Load Netflix, YouTube in 4K, or open ChatGPT to confirm access. First load may take a moment as the connection warms up.

Common Issues

  • macOS says app is damaged or cannot be opened.
Re-download V2RayX and drag it again into Applications. If the issue persists, open Terminal and run: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/V2RayX.app
  • Proxy enables but websites do not load.
Open V2RayX Preferences โ†’ select a different Routing mode (start with "Global"). Also make sure you are not running another VPN at the same time.
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) CPU crashes.
Make sure you downloaded the "arm64" or "Universal" build. The x86-only build runs under Rosetta and may crash randomly.
