Windows Setup Guide
Recommended client: v2rayN
What You Need
- A STEA VPN account (after payment approval)
- Your unique subscription link (dashboard β My Subscription)
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
- At least 200 MB of free disk space

Go to the official releases page and download the latest v2rayN zip.
- Look for a release with the "Latest" green label
- Choose the zip file that contains "v2rayN" in the filename
- Save it to your Downloads folder

Extract the zip file to a permanent folder.
- Right-click the zip β Extract Allβ¦
- Pick a safe location, e.g. C:\v2rayN\
- Do not run from inside the zip file
We recommend creating a shortcut to v2rayN.exe on your desktop for quick access. - 3
Double-click v2rayN.exe to launch the app.
v2rayN is fully portable β no installer runs. The first time you open it, Windows may show a SmartScreen prompt. Click "More info" β "Run anyway".
You may see a firewall prompt. Allow v2rayN on both Private and Public networks.

Open v2rayN and open the Subscription menu.
- Click the "Subscribe" menu in the top menu bar
- Select "Subscription settings" (or press Ctrl+A)

Click "Add" and paste your subscription link.
- In the Alias field, type "STEA VPN"
- In the Address field, paste the link exactly as copied from your dashboard
- Leave the other fields at their defaults
Copy the full link β it should start with "https://" or a protocol like "vless://". - 3
Save and update the subscription.
- Click OK to add the subscription
- Close Subscription Settings
- Press Ctrl+R, or click Subscribe β "Update subscription without proxy"
- You will see the server list populate with 80+ locations

Select your preferred server.
Click any row in the server list. For best speeds, start with a location near you.

Set it as the active server and enable the system proxy.
- Right-click the server β "Set as active server" (or press Enter)
- Press F12, or click the green rocket icon β "Enable system proxy"
- The tray icon at the bottom of the window turns green when connected
Look for the red "Proxy off" label in the bottom bar β it should turn green and show your current server name.

Open a browser and visit whatismyip.com.
The location and IP shown should match the server you selected in v2rayN.

Confirm the STEA VPN protected status.
You can also visit stea.vpn/status β when connected, it will display a green "Protected" badge with your exit location and current throughput.
If nothing loads after enabling, try switching servers and pressing F12 again.

- No browser traffic after pressing Enable.Restart v2rayN as administrator. If the issue persists, visit Settings β Parameter Settings and confirm HTTP port is 10809 and the system proxy mode is set to "Auto".
- Servers list stays empty after Ctrl+R.Double-check your subscription link in Subscription Settings. Make sure there is no leading/trailing whitespace. You can also paste the link into a browser and verify it returns text (not an error page).
- Windows updates or antivirus blocks v2rayN.Add the entire C:\v2rayN\ folder to your antivirus exclusions and try again. v2rayN is open-source and safe to run.
